My first 4 grades were in a 2 room school. There was no kitchen, just a little place at the end of the hall where the secretaries office was, behind a dutch door. She also did the "hot lunch". It was cans of Campbells soup in the can warmed in a machine that kind of looked like an old metal cooler that had dividers in it. The cans were laid down between the dividers. I think there were 6 dividers and a choice of 6 kinds of soup. I remember beanie weenie, and chili beef. We got 4 crackers and a milk for $0.25. There was a reduced lunch program but Mom and Dad would never go for that. We got to have a "special" lunch once a month or so. We carried our lunch in a plain grey round top lunch pail with a thermos. Lots of pressed rabbit sandwiches on homemade bread and cool whole milk from the milk tank....James
