Yes, Dad had an 875 and it would also get stuck between gears. I don't think it is just the 875's, but, typical to Versatiles in that era.
We had to treat it tenderly when shifting. After stopping, it seemed to shift a little better if we would slowly let out on the clutch, and then depress it again before shifting.
There is an update kit available for the shift rod and rails. We got rid of the tractor before investing in the upgrade. Big Tractor Parts in Hawley, MN carries the kit. Look on page 40 of their online catalog and you will see the parts diagram.
