May I suggest adding about three or four vertical bars across the fronts of your feeder, if you make them like JD's and Dick's. My old neighbor warned me (and I ignored his warning) that I'd lose an animal in my similar feeder. Sure enough, one morning I found a nice fat heifer on her back in the feeder - dead. Apparently another heifer had butted her into the feeder and she couldn't get out. After adding three or four #4 re-bars across the front sides, I've never lost another one. My neighbor always gave me good advice - I don't know why I didn't pay attention that one time.
