Remember the weather proof fender mount tractor radios at the farm stores 30-40 years ago ? They had a little removable panel on the rear with two slide switches to set 6V-12V and pos or neg ground.
Have not seen one of those for a long time. Also when CB was the rage 30-40 years ago, I installed one in a neighbors 6V pos ground grain truck using a little 6V to 12V converter like that . It worked good, it not only converted 6V to 12V, but also converted pos ground to neg ground for the CB radio.
