Triumph has a history of partnering with oil companies. For a while they recommended Mobil One, more recently they switched to Castrol. Presumably they cut a better deal with Castrol. Neither Mobil nor Castrol currently make a 5W40 synthetic motorcycle oil, so naturally Triumph recommended 10w40 Mobil One before and now recommends 10w40 Castrol synthetic. I don't know what Triumph triple you owned before, but my 2008 Tiger 1050 manual recommends 10w40, NOT 5w40.
I would not worry about using a full synthetic 5W40 motorcycle oil in your new Triumph, as long as it is rated JASO MA (or MA2). That rating ensures it is safe for your bike's wet clutch.
