After I'd been married about 8 or 10 years, I was working on the innards of a stock car, drilling a hole in the sheet metal for something or other using an electric drill with a metal case.
The battery on this car was mounted in front of the left rear wheel to help with weight distribution. Somehow, with the drill be spinning on metal I managed to touch the positive pole on the battery with my wedding ring. I managed to get the ring off in spite of a helluva burn around my finger.
My ring has been in a jewelry box ever since. Considering what I get into in my shop, my wife understands.
We'll be married 49 years next month. There are far more important elements to a marriage than whether you wear a ring or not.
