Thank God our local butcher my parents use are honest.
They gotta go pick up a free martin heifer they brought in 2 weeks ago on Monday. Best part is, she'll come wrapped up in neat 1lb packs of ground beef, burgers, and steaks!! The last free martin they butchered last year was the best tasting steaks I've ever had. Absolutely perfect marbleing in the steaks.
I can only hope this one comes back just as tasty. We'll probably have to try out some of the steaks next weekend...
My parents feed them basically the same as the milking herd. Lots of corn and hay silage, some dry hay, lots of brewers grain, and a little ground feed. No chemicals in our beef.
Funniest part about this heifer, is she peed sideways and up. Basically the only safe place around her was directly behind her. Her internal plumbing was definately messed up.... Even the breeder had to go look when he seen her pee while servicing another one.
