The problem with rear brakes on pickups is they never get used. If you usually run empty, you need to make an occasional hard stop to activate them. Otherwise they rust up; the proportioning valve won't send any pressure to the rear brakes on a normal stop. My wife drove a 2002 Silverado for a couple of years, and I think I ended up doing the rear brakes a couple of times for this reason.
