Another thought: Just because cables LOOK good doesn't mean they ARE good. Sometimes corrosion eats away at the copper under the insulation near the terminals. This reduces current carrying capacity which slows the starter.
To test take a voltmeter, set it to the lowest DC voltage range then place one probe on the + battery post and the other on the hot terminal of the starter solenoid. Now crank the engine while watching the voltmeter.
Next repeat with one meter probe on the neg battery post and the other on a solid ground.
If the meter shows shows more than a few tenths of a volt on either cable during cranking, that cable should be replaced.
