Heres a tip that works great for filtering gas when you pour it from cans.
Use a pair of your wifes old panty hose / stockings. Stretch the material over your funnel and then pour your gas through it, into the funnel. double it up and it will stop even the finest rust particles, and also stops water. The gas just flows right through, and water beads up and runs off the side.
