My cousin and I bought our first combine 140 miles from home...Model K, 2row ch and 13 foot bean/pickup head. Left seller"s farm about noon, one stop for gas, home by 10. Some new roads for me so wrote E(ast) and N(orth) on the foggy windshield at each turn after dark. Plan was to leave it 40 miles from home at a friend"s farm, but I kept going, cousin looking for me, and I was on back roads!
Also, 90 miles from home, truck fuel pump went out, pulled into farmer"s yard, explained my cousin was up ahead somewhere, I was to catch up so he could go home and milk cows. Farmer gave me his truck...I caught up and we switched driving. Total stranger- he said he used to milk cows, he understood!
