I have been making hay for just 4 years, I have just recently secured some 25 acres to row crop next year, and have an agreement to purchase another 25 tillable acres in Jan 2016. This ground has been in a bean, corn, bean, corn rotation for many years. I believe the ground has been taken care of and fertilized as a highly respected local farmer owns it. He is retiring in 2 years, we have made a deal for me to purchase the land from him, 25 acres in 2015, the other 25 acres in 2016. This land connects to my homestead.
So for the first time, I will be looking to purchase some soybean seed. I haven't talked with any seed reps yet, but what am I in for? will they even give me the time of day for such little seed? How will I go about selecting a variety? What do the expensive varieties have over the cheaper varieties? what does a big name seed company have over a no name seed company? Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.
