Same thing happened to me on a Chevy full sized Blazer once.
The front driveshaft was included but not installed when I bought it. The owner told me he'd had to replace the front axle on a trip and hadn't gotten around to installing the driveshaft. As soon as I installed the driveshaft I knew something was out of whack. The rear was 3:54 and the front he'd installed was 3:07.
Since rear axles were half the price of fronts, and 3:07's were more common and economical, I changed the rear to match the front.
I straightened the axles out, did some tinker work, and doubled my money on the thing.
