Llyn ewes & fattens their lambs to slaughter weight which is an intensive stocking rate. 3 to 4 ewes per acre is more normal on permanent pasture on poorer soil farms, there is only a few inches of soil above native Slate rock.
This immediate area is predominately upland grassland, mainly raising sheep & beef cattle ; with some dairy herds of 300 to 1000 cows on the more productive land up the coast.
