Different genetics in the seed. I had 3 different numbers of the same brand of corn this year, 2 numbers were the normal pale yellow and one was almost orange in color. When I was kid in the 60's, I helped a neighbor pick ear corn and unload into the crib. Once in a while you would find a red ear of corn with a white cob. Always saved them, not sure what he did with them, but had to save them. Chris
