for rusted rims, I have a scrap rim I cut pieces out of and get it welded into the rusted area, after I cut out the rust spot in as much of a square pattern as possible. The scrap rim is never the exact radius, so I hammer it to close as fit as possible. I drill a 5/8" hole in another part. Since I always put tubes in, 5/8" works just right. If it was a tubeless repair (doubtful with a patched rim) the hole would be ??? I don't know and will probably never try.
