At my old farm I used to have Yellow Transparents. I believe that is the same as what you are calling summer apples. They come due in very early August.
They will almost over ripen on the tree to the point you can smash them in your hand. One of my favorite apples. I think they are commonly known as a Lodi. I am hoping to find some for next spring to put in at my new place.
