Old, I went to college in the 60's. I purchased a mobile home made in the 50's. Even then mobile homes were wired with 4 wire mains, separate ground wire was connected to the metal skin. So, when you think about the NEC in 1996 requiring for all ranges in trailers to be 4 wire I really don't see the big deal.
Does anyone have a mobile home or manufactured home built before the 1996 NEC and did it come with 4 wire range and 4 wire clothes dryer? My trailer had a gas range, oil furnace. I think it may have had just a 40 or 60 amp main, not sure.
What I do find interesting is the 4 wire code for ranges in stick built homes is optional, county by county. WHY?
I'm not questioning if 4 wire isn't a good idea. However, I have googled; never found an article where anyone has died because the range or dryer was wired with 3 wire. If you know of an article please post a link. Thanks, George
