JD Seller mention a while back about land rents in his area. At 400-500 an acre plus close to 400 in inputs can kill any chance of a profit in a hurry once you add in harvesting, drying, trucking and storage.
Take a smaller guy, even with lower rents, if they are paying for someone to harvest for them can still lose money.
