Outgoing Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman set a record for being the longest serving Governor in the history of Nebraska, having served 10 consecutive years. Don't know if that's a national record.
He was Lieutenant Governor when (then) Governor Mike Johanns was elected to the U.S. Senate. Heineman served the remaining two years of Johanns' term, then was re-elected to two four year terms on his own. This term, he was term-limited out.
Also, in 1987 when Kay Orr and Helen Boosalis ran against each other for governor of Nebraska, it was the first time in the history of the United Stated that two women ran against each other for the governorship of a state. (Kay Orr won and did a commendable job). Don't know if that's happened since.
Figured ya'll wouldn't be able to sleep tonight unless you knew this.
