When I bought my farm there was an acre of hillside which was brushy grass. Looked ok just a bit steep. I was cleaning up the place so I took the brush cutter and went to knock it down.
Lucky I wasn't driving fast, it was the bumpiest roughest ground I had been on...plus there was really only one 20' level section at the top to turn. No way could I drive my tractor across the slope...would have tipped in places, it was puckering the first time as it was.
My old neighbour at the top of the hill was leaning on the fence watching me. I stopped when done and he had a big grin on his face. He was happy to see me knocking the fields down. But he told me the previous owner had hired some guy to come and plow the hillside.
The owner made the guy plow in circles around the field (plow must have held the guy from tipping). He said the guy was so upset when done he drove to the yard, loaded up and left. The guy was supposed to disc and pack the field after...but no one did anything.
Lucky my gear is big enough to take care of the mess...ended up just rotovating it a few times in the fall when it softened up. One pass in the spring before planting Christmas trees, and it was done. Now all I take on the hillside is a mower between the rows and drive up and down.
That previous owner left all kinds of treats for me...
