mike, the filter on the right is a steins. I purchased a case of steins off ebay for $40, free shipping, $3.33 each. The filter in the middle is a $12 Kawasaki filter. Steins has more pleats,40 vs 36, better pressure relief valve attached to the metal end, metal ends attached to the center metal tube. Kaw has paper ends and cheap looking pressure relief valve that is held in place with a spring.
The same steins filter I can use on my briggs and kohler engines.
Plan to cut apart a briggs and kohler filter to see how they stack up to the steins on the inside too.
I plan to change my oil and filters more often. The kaw filter off a mule only had 75 hours in it. No idea how many hours the steins had. It came off a kaw engine on the JD. JD didn't have an hour meter. I've installed hour meters on everything I have now. I think I'm going to do change oil and filter sooner, every 50 hours, instead of doing what the owner's manual recommends.
