My dad was a one man beekeeping operation for years here in mich. I think you can order anytime, they won't ship until the weather is safe. The mail man would bring them or we would get the at post office. He learned as he went. Used to get a magazine called Gleanings in beekeeping. Did it until age and colony collapse stopped him. With old hive supers, he would sometimes pass a propane torch over the inside lightly to kill any disease. He is in assisted living now and no one in the family wants to carry on. I may sell his operation as a package set up this spring.
