Reminds me of when I was in high school(1989). I helped a local farmer lay out pipe. When we were done he went into the house and came out with a $5 bill and a glass of tea. he drank the tea and gave me the $5. he offered me a drink from the garden hose.
The 5 bucks figured out to $1 an hr.I never went back.
