A lot of interesting information there, Steve. I have read, however, that the North American custom of "keep right" arose out of the popularity of the Model T (which had the left side steering). With over two thirds of the vehicles on the early roads being Ford Model T's, it made sense. Somewhat related, it is interesting that most open pit mines and quarries in N. America are "keep left".
