I was renting from a friend of mine in So Minneapolis while I put an addition on a house I'd bought. I'd come from work, have a sandwich, then head north across the 35W bridge to work for a few hours on my house. Was on my way out the door and my friend reminded me it was the 1st of the month. Did I have the rent? Oh yeah. So I wrote her a check and we chatted for a few minutes. If she hadn't delayed me that few minutes I probably would have been on the bridge when it went. When I got on the freeway there was a huge cloud of dust and highway patrol racing ahead of us to close the road. Took a couple of hours to get out of the traffic snarl. I kinda miss the old bridge. Big heavy steel contraption. New one is just another piece of concrete highway. You don't even know you are crossing the river. We walked across the river on the cat walk under the old bridge. Hobos or someone had stacked up some barrels on both ends that you could climb up to get to the steel ladder. Then climb up the ladder to the cat walk. Not supposed to but people did anyway. It was interesting to be under there, Nice view of the Mississippi going through Downtown, enormous bridge structure to look at, etc.
