I don't think I ever recall the practice going on around here, but the local agway, a feed store + all kinds of farm related things, put out a sign, free coffee while you shop, so maybe its coming back.
Now right across the street, is where that happens in this town, friend is part owner, if I am up at 3am, he is just opening, well starting the baking, all homemade, done on the premises. Its funny because I can see where he lives, the vehicle starts up, lights come on, and he drives about a 1/4 mile to the place, all in view from my kitchen, so he literally has the shortest commute to work LOL ! I can remember getting up at the same time and having 165 miles to go before I get to my job in NYC for the week, wished I had his commute, and would stop in on the way out. People may come in at 5am or earlier, the door was usually open before, as long as the lights are on, you can get coffee. His grandad did the same thing, early riser, opened hours before sun up. Thing is, you have to be careful what you say to people while in there, or watch what you talk about, as lots of people go there, so news or gossip spreads fast, but that's just human nature, but... don't be telling people about your private affairs if you get my drift LOL ! I don't frequent the place that much like I used to, every so often. They have good mild coffee and any fresh, just out of the oven baked goods one would like, pies, muffins etc, + breakfast, lunch and dinner too. Some are there daily at 5am, same people, sit in the same chair, at the same place along the one end of the bar, its actually called a dairy bar. Different place but the same thing goes on there, long before me too LOL !
