I would bet that some body had them made. Then they "aged" them by making them rust. Throw some dirt and fertilizer on them and let them set six months. They will look just like those you see.
A fellow here had dinner bells cast. Then he would bury them on bank by his barn with some fertilizer thrown in. He would them kind of brush them off and take them to sales. Guys would buy them up as antique dinner bells.
