Disk brakes will be the dead giveaway. A Stage 1 SM will still have a two bolt starter. A Stage 2 SM may or may not have live hydraulics, thus the brake thing.
Look up "Super M" with Google images and pay attention to the brakes. Note that there are aftermarket disk brakes on some regular M's. They were made by Lambert but do not look like the factory ones on a SM.
It's true that a very late production regular M could have the disk brakes but these are not common. Once you get close to the tractor you can look at the tag for "SM" and the serial number. Also "264" will be cast into the block in the upper left corner on the distributor side.
