Guy here in Michigan walked 20+ miles to work every day for his $10.50/hr job. Made the news and a kid started a Gofundme page. Local dealer gave him a brand new Taurus (FREE car). The page raised over $350,000 for the guy. Turns out it's TAX-FREE because the donors can't take a deduction and each gift is small. He's now got a financial advisor doing his estate planning for FREE. They put the money in a trust whose interest pays his car insurance and rent. He won't have to touch the principal until he retires. How many of you don't have $350k in your IRA? Want to get there? Start a page. Like others said, there are lots of gullible people out there. Not that the recipient who was a "walker" was a scammer. He didn't ask for the help and seems like a decent guy. But there are lots of people like him who didn't make the right choices when they were younger and now are having trouble making ends meet.
