We are getting layer chicks in about ten days. 15 of them. The granddaughters can get 15 from a local commercial hatchery for 4H for free but they have to show some of them at the fair in September. This hatchery even has its own section in the chicken barn at the fair. The old buzzards in the chicken house are still doing a fairly respectable job of laying but they aren't going to be laying well in the near future so it's time for them to be replaced. It's an occurrence that can only happen once a year and this is the year.
