Just a guess: Assume the easy stuff first. You washed it, therefore water is the problem. Take a rag to all plastic surfaces that handle high voltage. The coil, distributor outside and inside, and the rotor. Don't worry too much about the points or condensor, as they handle low voltage normally and shouldn't be affected by small amounts of water. If you have a spark plug tester, see if spark is at the plugs. If not, check spark at the rotor by taking off the distributor and holding a lead on the rotor metal. If still no, your guess might be right, the coil would be next to suspect, followed by the points and condensor. You might also just take the distributor cap off and let it sit for a couple of days to dry out.
