About the only thing I ever remember my Dad being afraid of,or at least telling us might happen to us,was that we might be "picked up". And he didn't mean by the police. We were never told what to fear might happen to us if we were,just to be careful so we weren't picked up. On the rare occasion that somebody couldn't find their kid,my parents would look concerned and say to us or each other,they hoped they weren't "picked up". There wasn't any cause for alarm in the warning to make us afraid of our own shadows,just concern.
