Agreed. See "Magnuson–Moss". The fuzzy area is that the non OEM filter must be "equivalent". I don't know of any aftermarket filters that are as short as the B+S one, maybe that is the hitch. That said, if a B&S is going to fail, it will likely be on the first filter, or well out of warranty.
