I would try using a die grinder with a carbide burr to cut out the weld. My dad had an old chevy truck that someone had done that to the harmonic balancer. What happened in that case was the guy put his ground cable to the truck frame. The welder current went through the main bearings. It ruined the crank, bearings, and seal. If I were you and the tractor runs ok, I would close it back up and sell it. Unless you have a spare engine, I think you are opening up a big can of worms. Hi Bob Grind the weld off and remove the fly wheel then pull cover off that holds the oil seal and thrust spacer,the oil seal is a packing located inside of thrust washer or spacer what ever.when you go to reinstall fly wheel ,you need six to tenths clearance between flywheel and thrust washer,the best way I've found to get this clearance is to put duct tape on thrust washer push brake pulley in as far as you can then apply a generous coat fo loctite to splines and slide flywheel on up against the duct tape(mic's about six thou.'s) and tighten flywheel.If you sell that "G" let me know I have a great respect for them. I already have five,got room for one more .
