I think those 70 Series Case Agri-Kings in orange were one of the most attractive looking tractors ever made.
In 1972 David Brown started to import the 970 into England and the demonstrators were orange colour.
In 1973 I was working for a huge share farming company when they bought 6 x 970's in white with cabs. I got the one supplied to our block of farms.
WOW - what a tractor compared to the Ford 5000 it replaced, air conditioning, power shift gears, radio - farmers came from miles around to see it at work.
BUT - no diff lock - on the farms hilly and sandy soils it was a severe disadvantage. We used to say "one spin and you're in" - wheel spin and it buried itself up to the axle & drawbar.
Very few 970's were imported into England. A recent article in a farming magazine was written by an old David Brown tractor man who toured England doing the demonstrations to launch the 970. He said DB should have imported the 1270 which had diff lock.
This 970 at a local show here is one of the original imported models.
