I recently purchased a gas and charcoal grill combo at Menards. Then I discovered all gas grills on the market today don't have lava rock like my old grill did. I talked to many and they all said the same think, junk. You might as well use your oven instead of todays gas grills. Gas grills have hot spots between the burners and little heat over the burner because it's covered with metal.
I modified my new grill using the rock out of my old grills.
I've never had an IR grill.
Charcoal is the only way to go if you want to have a grill flavor. Or do like I did and add lava rock to a gas grill.
I like the grill I purchased because all the grates are coated.
