Tractors are put in the gear being used when stopped. If, when operating the tractor, it jumps out of gear, there are three things that are possibly the cause (or a combo): the shift rails in the mechanism moving the gears could be rusty and or failed, allowing no hold in positioning of the shift fork/s. It could have worn teeth on the gears causing them to walk out of engagement despite the detent, and lastly, the main and pilot bearings in the trans could be failing allowing misalignment to walk the gears out of engagement.
