Used to be no tags were needed, the cows came when called by name to get their treats and most of the calves soon learned the drill. 'course that was when 10 cows was the 'norm' instead of 100 being called a 'small' herd. Compare cow ear tags to humans wearing ear rings and stud jewelry- hard to believe that human females (and some male) would put voluntarily in some of the hardware seen lately. RN
