My LX188 seemed to cut grass ok .no obvious miss fire. I'll spare the long embarrassing story of why it took two ignition modules , two coils and two non resistor plugs.
Now it just blasts through the grass and will even make the new mower drive belts howl when pushed too hard.
Check the fast idle rpm . They tended to be set too low. Mine has been tweaked plenty to 3800rpm fast idle.
