I don't know why that small threaded part is on there. There's no spring inside the big one. But,ya,I got the coils off of it and screwed it back on to the spring. It made it awful short. Even with it raised all the way up,I had to drive two wedges in to it to lengthen it out,and then it lacked half a hole of being able to get the pin back in. I got a punch in the hole and pulled it down and got the pin in from the backside. I learned that trick about screwing that plug back in the second time I broke one on my Hesston.
