Shouldn't be too bad of a job. More than likely its black poly pipe...could be any number of different sizes so you won't really know until you dig it up. Make sure you use stainless or brass fittings, double stainless hose clamps and wrap everything in rubber tape. If you are going reuse the old hydrant, I would probably rebuild it first otherwise just buy new; would hate to have to dig it back up in a year or two.
I just tied into my main water line and ran 400' of 1" poly pipe to a new hydrant by my shop. I rented a mini hoe for the weekend and dug it all myself @ 6' deep. Between digging and backfilling I put 12hrs on the mini hoe. Plus a couple hours to setup the hydrant and connect everything.
