Spiral may be tricky. How big is it ? The larger it is I think the easier it would be to do yourself ? I have welded up JD rollomactic gear teeth which are straight cut without issue. You just have to get a rod made to weld on gears. Certainium 707 used to be a good one but is hard to find. Last time rod dealer crossed it to something else. These rods weld gets hard and has to be ground to shape. Also had a welder friend weld up some parts of a steering worm where the break the corners off of. He tig welded it with some hard stuff. Nice thing with tig was he could control better how much was laid down so not as much grinding needed. No special heat treating needed before or after welding these.
There is a guy on here I think Rich Dwane (sp?) makes worm gears for the John Deeres. Might be worth a shout out to him over at the JD board.
