The best action to take in any situation where your own and others lives or safety is in danger is to fight back full on with whatever is available to fight with, whether it is a pistol or a rock or a ketchup bottle, use whatever you have as swiftly as possible to inflict the maximum amount of damage you can to your opponent. Best case there will be more than one fighting back, worse case your dead but you would be dead regardless. The cowards who go on these shooting sprees do not expect any resistance and whenever they encounter some it always results in less casualties.
