I have a bee keeper, pollinator contractor, type of guy, that brings around 200 hives each summer from Idaho, and leaves them till the Scotch broom, is over flowering. they are 400 ft away from the house, but gang up on any water sourse they can find. Dog's water pan, cows water tank, rain barrel, that kind of thing. They don't sting, if disturbed. I gave up on the grand kids swimming pool, while the bees are here. He does all his bee work at night, but it doesn't cause us any disturbance. I have mowed over those ground living little yellow jackets, and they are really aggressive. They attact the hot muffler and hood on my Allis CA, but ignore me back on the seat. I sit real still till I am out of range.
