I heard a siren early this morning, then it stopped fairly close. I thought maybe they got called off at the corner or something. When I got up,there were two cop cars in the neighbors driveway. Before I got chores done, the hearse pulled in. My wife has been going up there every morning for more than a year now, helping get the old guy out of bed, cleaned up and dressed. As soon as I told her the hearse was there, she ran out and headed up there. I guess he passed at around 6am. He was 85 and in bad health. They were giving him a transfusion Monday and he stopped breathing. They revived him and rushed him to Grand Rapids. He was in congestive heart failure and there was nothing they could do,so they sent him home yesterday on Hospice. He didn't last long enough for them to even get everything set up. They've lived there all of my life. His middle daughter is my age,we went all through school together. She still lives about a mile and a half away. Darned shame that they'll associate Christmas with their loss from now on.
