I live in something similar to what you propose. Pros: -saves money building and heating Cons: -Noise in shop wakes up wife and kid -Sorting out the taxes for farm has been a pain as it was a farm building first. Check out capital gains issues if you use it for business first. -Odd building means trouble dealing with code guys, lenders, insurance agent etc
If I did it again I would have built a house and shop adjacent with a mud room/boiler room/ boot room link between them.
