Hard to believe that shes 3 years old already. Been a fair amount if interest in it so I thought another update was in order. Here's what she looked like the day I picked her up.

Can you tell where my hands ride while driving? Lol

I'll start with the statistics. Got 406,207.9 miles and 8868.7 hours on it right now. My milage since new is up to 7.8 mpg. I had an overhead done on the engine this year and that helped a lot. My summer average was well over 8 mpg, now I'm back in the mid 7's on winter fuel. Since the fuel price is down I've been driving at 70 mph which is pulling my milage down some, but at this price the time saved pays more than the fuel costs.

Maintainance wise this was a better year even tho I did have some issues. I replaced the starter for the second time and batteries for the third time. Also had 2 airconditioning lines that rotted through because they were clamped on with steel clamps. And had to replace an idler on the airconditioner belt. Had to replace the steer tires early this year for the second time. I got 200,000 miles on the first et and I think 150,000 on the second. Also just replaced 2 more drives on thursday. That was the last of the original drives to go. One had been replaced because of a blowout but it was a goodyear and I couldn't find a match so Ijust replaced both and put the new ones on the drive axle.

I'm still happy with the super single tires and really don't see much difference in how they handle on the road compared to duals.

The engine still runs great and pulls well beyond what you would expect for 385 hp. It burns no oil in a 20,000 mile oil change. Ime very impressed with it still and happy with it.

The trany is still a work of art as far as I'm concerned, it operates perfectly, shifts smooth and does everything it should. It has also been trouble free so far.

The rear suspension is also still working great and performs perfectly. I'm very impressed with the way it works to keep the truck stable and traction at maximum. I still worry about what will happen when it gets older and those electronics start to cause trouble.

So even tho the maintainance costs have been higher than I would like I still like the truck and think over all its good and has served me well. At least I'm making money with it. And it's nicer to drive than my other one was.

Today's Featured Article - Uncle Cecil's Super A Lives Again - by Mike Purcell. A week or so out of most of my childhood summers was often spent with my Uncle Cecil and Aunt Sissie in the small East Texas town of Maydelle on their 80 acre farm. Some of my fondest memories of these visits are those of learning to drive a tractor at the helm of Uncle Cecil’s 1948 Farmall Super A. Uncle Cecil was the second owner of this wonderful little tractor, but it was almost as though he had adopted an infant. The original owner was a man from Minnesota who bought her from a local dea ... [Read Article]
