Have two markets. One in the Albany area and one in Vermont that has been around since the invention of dirt. The one in the Albany area pays a better price if you can produce Fall milk. The place in Vermont doesn't care when you produce it but pays less. Don't know what their percentage of fluid sales to cheese manufacture is. I'm just a spectator in this little enterprise. I do know that Jeff and him penciled out that he needs a hundred milkers to make the shipping costs feasible and still make money. I do know that there are other goatsy types around that will ship also, if he can put this together. One local girl is now running her fathers dairy farm but also has a successful dairy goat operation going, too. She has a local clientele that buys all of the milk she produces.
As to ventilation, the whole hay mow is vented at the eves and there is a hay barn door at the corner of the corral. We also have a couple of the large ventilation fans sitting around doing nothing at the time.
I really hope this whole thing does fly because I have a granddaughter who is really into the goats. The older of the two turns 15 in a few months and has made it clear to Jeff she wants in on the dairy end of it with a nursing degree as a backup.
