Your clutch probably has a micro switch on the clutch linkage that won't allow you to start it unless the clutch is depressed. Also there is a neutral switch in the gear linkage that does the same. Sold a John Deere combine to a guy who knew nothing about combines. Spent a couple of hours checking him out on how to set and operate. He started out on a 25 mile drive to his farm. Withing 10 minutes he called and told me it would not go fast enough....he had variable speed in loweste range. He stopped for lunch at some restaurant and said it wouldn't start...gear shift was not in neutral. I checked him out on all these features just before he left the farm. I would have loved to have been on his farm for his first shot a shelling corn or combining wheat. I suspect he tore the auger off the combine first time he got near a truck, tree or building.
